Junior musical theatre teacher

Responsible to: Head of Musical Theatre Department
PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The Junior Musical Theatre teacher will provide inspiring, creative and dynamic classes for the younger students in the school, with a critical focus on instilling a love of performance and the tools to further develop their skill and technique. To be actively involved in creating the musical theatre class plans for the junior musical theatre team, alongside developing the full year plan with the higher MT department. To assist in the organisation of LAMDA exams sessions, and in the senior students MT musical productions, and ultimately arranging and creating inspiring pieces for both competitions and shows for the junior students. The post holder will uphold and build upon the truly outstanding achievements of the junior MT teaching role to date, whilst bringing to Diverse their own influence and expertise. The teacher will be predominantly working with students age, 5yrs – 12yrs.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- To be confident/experienced in working with students on script work, stage direction, stage craft/movement and performance
- To actively research and develop new teaching ideas for Musical Theatre and keeping abreast of new ideas and teaching practices within the wider industry
- To explore new repertoire and performances suitable for the younger students
- To develop and deliver innovative projects for solo and group performances in collaboration with other departments
- To adhere to standards within the department
- To teach as appropriate and by the agreement of the Principals
- To assist annual Musical Theatre shows, including researching new material and to conduct performances as appropriate
- To undertake administrative duties regarding general parent-teacher communication and assisting in the organisation of examinations as required
- To carry out any other duties as are within the scope, spirit and purpose of the job and the ethos of Diverse, as requested and illustrated by the Principals of the school and head of department

- Ability to manage a variety of different age groups of students effectively, focusing on younger students age, 4 – 12yrs old
- Ability to relate effectively to students from a wide range of backgrounds
- Driven to achieve excellence for their students
REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- Minimum 2 + years teaching experience
- Professional performing background preferred not essential
- Experience in providing private singing lessons tailored to prepare students for LAMDA Musical Theatre exams.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related subject (preferred).
Salary: Commensurate with experience
